The imposing palace located at Quinta da Boa Vista (second largest urban park in the city of Rio de Janeiro), is a Brazilian heritage listed in 1938 by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN).<\/p>\n\n

During the nineteenth century, it was the royal residential palace of d. Jo\u00e3o VI nd imperial residential palace of d. Pedro I and d. Pedro II. After the Proclamation of the Republic (1889), it housed the Assembly of the first republican Constitution (1891). Since 1892, it has been the \u201chouse\u201d of the National Museum, the oldest Brazilian scientific institution, which was founded in 1818 and had as its first headquarters the current building of the Casa da Moeda Cultural Center (Campo de Sant\u2019Anna, downtown Rio de Janeiro).<\/p>\n\n

After surviving the 2018 fire, the Pa\u00e7o de S\u00e3o Crist\u00f3v\u00e3o had its facades preserved, but its roof and interior were badly damaged. In addition to rebuilding the monument-building,<\/strong>the Museu Nacional Vive Project will also renovate <\/strong> the Al\u00edpio de Miranda Ribeiro annex building, restore the historical gardens <\/strong>of Quinta da Boa Vista, and develop the new museography project.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

With a collection of 500,000 books, including 1,500 rare works, the Central Library of the National Museum\/UFRJ is undergoing the biggest renovation and expansion work in its history. <\/p>\n\n

The construction of a research and teaching campus will ensure that Pa\u00e7o de S\u00e3o Crist\u00f3v\u00e3o is entirely dedicated to exhibitions and educational activities. The campus will host administrative, academic, laboratory and technical reserve buildings, in addition to providing a visitation center that allows for the resumption of school visits, even before the Museum\u2019s reopening.<\/p>\n\n
