VIRTUAL EXHIBITIONS<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n


MEMORY AND RECONSTRUCTION<\/strong>

This virtual exhibit invites the public to learn more about the history of the institution and the ongoing work to fully restore it for society. Organized in the format of timelines, the page Museu Nacional Vive \u2013 Memory and Reconstruction<\/strong><\/a> offers navigation through two virtual sections. “More Than 200 Years of History” highlights key moments in the Museum\u2019s history, such as its first exhibitions and visits by luminaries like Santos Dumont, Marie Curie, and Albert Einstein. In the section “Building Tomorrow,” visitors can explore details of the ongoing reconstruction through images, texts, and videos on topics like collection recovery, sculpture restoration, facade work, archaeological monitoring, and more.

MINERALOGY<\/strong>
The new website for the collection recompose campaign presents the exhibition Recomp\u00f5e.Mineralogi<\/strong>a<\/a>, which reveals nine items to the public, including two recently donated pieces and seven acquired with sponsorship from Vale, through the Law of Incentive to Culture. One of the featured items is a gypsum sample, which is used in the construction industry to make plaster, for instance. While other minerals have high hardness, gypsum can be easily scratched, even by human nails.

The second virtual room of the exhibition is dedicated to five items rescued from the 2018 fire. A highlight of this exhibition is revealing how the minerals transformed due to the intense heat of the fire. For example, there\u2019s a quartz stone that was once brown or smoky-colored but is now colorless. Another item on display is a chalcedony that lost its original color and was left impregnated with soot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ANTHROPOLOGY<\/strong>
With the support of the Museu Nacional Vive Project<\/a>, the virtual exhibition “Os Primeiros Brasileiros” brings together the Museum\u2019s indigenous collection that was unaffected by the 2018 fire. The exhibition was created by anthropologist Jo\u00e3o Pacheco de Oliveira (MN\/UFRJ) in close collaboration with the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples and Organizations from the Northeast, Minas Gerais, and Esp\u00edrito Santo (APOINME).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PHYSICAL EXHIBITIONS HELD (2022\/2023)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Celebrating 409 years of Madureira, the Museu Nacional Vive Project<\/a> and the City of Rio de Janeiro developed the exhibition “Luzia and Berthasaura in Madureira.” Visitors enjoyed seeing a replica of the skull of Luzia \u2013 the oldest human remains in the Americas \u2013 as well as the fossil of Berthasaura leopoldinae<\/em>, found in Paran\u00e1 in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around the Pa\u00e7o de S\u00e3o Crist\u00f3v\u00e3o (the Museum\u2019s headquarters), the open-air exhibition “Museu Nacional Vive” featured panels and photographs highlighting the history and ongoing reconstruction of the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition Recomp\u00f5e.Mineralogia<\/strong>, with 17 large and small pieces, occupied the entrance hall of the palace (meteorite Bendeg\u00f3 room). For the first time since the 2018 fire, visitors could approach the building and observe, from its central doors, a diverse set of minerals that had been recovered, along with newly acquired items sponsored by Vale, through the Law of Incentive to Culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stimulated by the Museu Nacional Vive Project<\/strong>, the virtual exhibition \u201cOs Primeiros Brasileiros\u201d [The First Brazilians] <\/strong>“<\/a>, is running with the National Museum\u2019 indigenous collection that was not hit by fire. The exhibition was conceived by anthropologist Jo\u00e3o Pacheco de Oliveira (MN\/UFRJ), in close partnership with the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples and Organizations of the Northeast region and states of Minas Gerais and Esp\u00edrito Santo (APOINME).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PHYSICAL EXHIBITIONS<\/strong> (2019)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In partnership with other Brazilian research and cultural institutions, the National Museum\/UFRJ continues to exhibit its collections. Four physical exhibitions hosted by cultural centers in Rio de Janeiro helped to spread knowledge and strengthen the Museum\u2019s relationship with its audience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

ANTARCTICA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just four months after the fire, the exhibition \u201cQuando Nem Tudo era Gelo \u2013 Novas Descobertas no Continente Ant\u00e1rtico\u201d [When Not Everything Was Ice \u2013 New Discoveries on the Antarctic Continent] <\/strong> opened at the Casa da Moeda Cultural Center (RJ). Plant fossils, shells, shark teeth, crustaceans and even some pieces rescued from the fire were exhibited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ARQUEOLOGY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition \u201cSanto Ant\u00f4nio de S\u00e1: Primeira Vila do Rec\u00f4ncavo da Guanabara\u201d [Santo Ant\u00f4nio de S\u00e1: First Village of Rec\u00f4ncavo da Guanabara]<\/strong> opened at CAIXA Cultural (RJ) in November 2019, exhibiting archeological pieces found during the construction of the Petrochemical Complex of the State of Rio de Janeiro, in Itabora\u00ed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

METEORITES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rocky and metallic meteorites, a meteoritic iron dagger and a totem that tells the story of the famous Bendeg\u00f3 make up the exhibition \u201cResurgindo das Cinzas\u201d [Rising from Ashes].<\/strong> The result of a partnership with the Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences (RJ), the exhibition opened to the public in November 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

INDIGENOUS PEOPLES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Photographs, music, artifacts and films that record the diversity and narratives of indigenous peoples compound the exhibition \u201cOs Primeiros Brasileiros\u201d [The First Brazilians]<\/strong>, which occupied the rooms of the National Archives (RJ). The exhibition has been in circulation for over ten years, always awakening new emotions and perspectives on the country\u2019s indigenous people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
