The Museu Nacional\/UFRJ, the first museum and scientific institution in Brazil, will celebrate its 206th anniversary with a diverse educational and cultural program<\/strong> on Sunday (06\/09) at Quinta da Boa Vista. The event is a partnership with the Museu Nacional Vive Project (a cooperation between UFRJ, UNESCO, and the Instituto Cultural Vale<\/strong>) and is supported by the Research Support Foundation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Scientific Tent<\/strong>, located in front of the statue of Emperor Pedro II, the public will have the opportunity to interact with the Museum’s scientific and cultural collections, including paleontological fossils, beetles, fish, mollusks, sacred objects from Afro-Brazilian religions<\/strong>, and records of Japanese immigration<\/strong>. Over thirty stands will be dedicated to interaction between Museum researchers and the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cultural program has attractions for all ages. For the first time, children from Quilombo Sobara de Araruama will present their Grupo Batuque Reciclado<\/strong> starting at 10:15 am. Following this, the acrobatics and dances of UniCirco Marco Frota<\/strong> will engage the audience. In the afternoon, a cultural procession with music by Luiz Gonzaga will take place around Quinta da Boa Vista, led by the Bloco Cord\u00e3o da Tia Juca<\/strong> and Quadrilha Rastap\u00e9 nas Alturas<\/strong>. The activities will conclude with a samba circle led by the group Samba Independente dos Bons Costumes (SIBC)<\/strong> starting at 3:30 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We will celebrate the 206 years of our Museu Nacional with this event that has become a tradition. We will be open-armed to welcome the public, showing that Brazil\u2019s first museum remains scientifically relevant and present in the daily life of the population. Everyone is welcome, but we especially invite Cariocas and tourists who may not yet be accustomed to visiting Quinta da Boa Vista on weekends. Come see what researchers have discovered and the progress of the restoration works at the Pa\u00e7o de S\u00e3o Crist\u00f3v\u00e3o,”<\/em> invites Professor Alexander Kellner, Director of the Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Lucia Basto, Executive Manager of the Museu Nacional Vive Project, the anniversary “highlights the commitment of the Museum\u2019s partner institutions not only to the evolution of the works and technical projects but also to the development of educational and cultural programs, fostering integration between the Museum and the community.”<\/strong> The public will also be able to view the history of the Museum\u2019s reconstruction through photographs and videos about the progress made to return the institution to society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will also feature a sign language interpreter<\/strong>, replicas of collections available for handling by the public, educational tours<\/strong>, activities organized by partner institutions, and a special edition of the Junta Local Fair<\/strong>, with approximately 40 vendors selling food from 10 am to 5 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
