#MuseuNacionalVive no Bicentenário
.
To celebrate this moment within the Brazilian society, the Project will hold the #MuseuNacionalVive no Bicentenário program, with temporary exhibits, educational activities, and free cultural presentations.
Starting on Saturday (03/09), at Quinta da Boa Vista, the #MuseuNacionalVive no Bicentenário event will take place, with exhibitions, artistic presentations and educational activities. Audiences of all ages are invited to participate of the programming and appreciate the main façade of Paço de São Cristóvão, which is entirely restored. In addition to enjoying the Terrace Garden, revitalized and open to the public again.
Minerals Hub
The exhibit Recompose.Mineralogy presents 17 small and large pieces, which are occupying the entrance hall of the palace (Bendegó meteorite room). For the first time after the fire, the public can approach the building and observe – from its central doors – a diverse set of rescued minerals and new items recently acquired and sponsored by Vale, through the Culture Incentive Law.
Among the recovered minerals, there is a quartz that, before the fire, was a brown (smoky) specimen. The heat of the fire turned it colorless.
Another piece that is available for public appreciation is a chalcedony. Samples of this mineral, a cryptocrystalline variation of quartz, also resisted the fire, but lost their original color, becoming white and opaque.
Among the pieces recently incorporated into the collection, we highlight two amethyst geodes measuring 2.5 meters, weighing around 500 kg each. And a piece made up of two sheets of agate with amethyst, recently donated to the Museum.
At this exhibit, which runs until December 6, the public also has the opportunity to see an iconic piece from the National Museum/UFRJ, the Bendegó meteorite.

At the Terrace Garden occurs an exhibit with eight marble scupltures that represents Greek mythology, which used to be at the top of the palace. For the first time in the Museum’s history, the public can admire from very close the restored sculptures.
The sculptural set of the Museum is formed by 30 centenary pieces, which weigh between 200 and 300 kilos each. The restoration of the pieces also made it possible the production of replicas, which are already replacing the originals at the top of the main facade of the palace.
