Cooperation

The Museu Nacional Vive Project is the result of technical cooperation established between the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and Vale Cultural Institute and counts on an innovative governance structure for its management.

Marlova Jovchelovitch Noleto, UNESCO Director and Representative in Brazil, highlights that the Organization makes available its expertise and technical knowledge in the area of ​​museums and heritage safeguard to overcome the operational challenges of the project. “The objective is to return this important cultural, academic and scientific institution to Brazilian and international societies. The National Museum has incomparable historical value and relevance for humanity.”.

For Denise Pires de Carvalho, UFRJ Dean, “UNESCO’s and Vale Cultural Institute’s cooperation with UFRJ has been fundamental for the execution of the Museu Nacional Vive project with excellence, seriousness and great competence. We want to return the National Museum to Brazilian society as soon as possible, after all we are talking about one of the oldest scientific institutions in the country.”.

According to the Vale Communication and Institutional Relations Executive Vice President, Luiz Eduardo Osorio, “Vale’s commitment to the Museu Nacional Vive Project is connected with our commitment to Rio de Janeiro and the Brazilian cultural identity. We are proud to participate in this rebuilding process by means of such an innovative partnership that, in addition to contributing resources, provides for sharing the experience and knowledge we have accumulated in managing museums and cultural centers. We will work hard in this technical cooperation to recover a heritage that belongs to the whole society.”.
