UNESCO FORUM DISCUSS PROTECTION FOR MUSEUMS

The director of the Museu Nacional/UFRJ, Alexander Kellner, participates in the online event on Friday (24), from 1pm.

Between the 23rd and 24th of September, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) promotes the 2nd High Level Forum on UNESCO Museums.. With the theme Facing post-pandemic challenges through innovation and inclusion, the meeting will bring together experts and directors of renowned museums from different countries, and may be followed by the public through UNESCO’s YouTube channel.

On Friday (24), the director of the National Museum/UFRJ, Alexander Kellner, participates in the debate “Museums in crisis and conflicts”. The panel will begin at 1:00 pm and will also feature Mohammad Fahim Rahimi, director of the National Museum of Afghanistan; Samuel Sidibé, former director of the National Museum of Mali; and Zaid Ghazi Saadallah, director of the Museum of Mosul (Iraq). The meeting will be mediated by UNESCO’s Director of Culture and Emergencies, Lazare Eloundou, and aims to sensitize the international community to seek concrete ways of protecting institutions and positioning museums as agents of change and builders of peace.

The 2nd UNESCO High Level Forum on Museums is sponsored by the Zhizheng Art Museum in Shenzhen (China) and will discuss issues such as the future and sustainability of museum institutions, promoting inclusion and access to culture, helping emergency museums and promoting of the use of new technologies to fight the digital divide.
